The first NES/Famicom: Ghosts ‘n Goblins (Capcom, 1986)
This classically tough game was the first mainstream Zombie game and the first for the famed Nintendo Entertainment System.
This 1985 arcade game by Capcom was a true coin eater, as kids had to become insanely good to progress through this game. It's known for its brutal difficulty, right out of the gate in the first level.
Finding this best zombie video game factory sealed is extremely difficult. There are several versions, and this being a 1986 NES title the first version comes with a cardboard hangtab.
There are only a handful of this first print known to exist, but any version of this game in a factory sealed condition is highly sought-after.
Additionally, CIBS of this game have also become collectible over the years; finding a carboard hangtab example, even in CIB, can be a long-term goal if looking for a mint example.

The fitst Zombie Home Console Game: Entombed (Atari 2600, 1982)
This spooky horror game for the Atari 2600 is the first home console game to feature Zombies.
Entombed is a maze game, and very uncommon to find factory sealed.
Arguably the most important game series of the 1990s, Resident Evil (Wikipedia link) is THE best zombie video game for collectors.
This game secured the PS1 as the dominant console in the disc console wars, and cemented Sony’s future crown in home consoles.

The birth of the survival horror game genre as we know it started here. Anyone who played this game in 1996 will never forget the tense scenes, insanely gorgeous graphics, interesting puzzles and eerie soundtrack.
The early PS1 games were released in a "Long Box", an over-sized cardboard box. Eventually they would move over to the sleek jewel case format popularized by music CDs of the era.
Finding a factory sealed example, especially the 1st print long box variation, is one of the most difficult tasks in retro game collecting.

This very early Ubisoft game is a graphic adventure for the Amiga, Commodore 64 and Spectrum.
The game in general is rare, so copies do not turn up often.
Sweet Home (Famicom, 1989)

This cult classic RPG game by Capcom is the brainchild of Tokuro Fujiwara, who also worked on another game on this list, Ghosts ‘n Goblins.
Unfortunately, this game was only released in Japan for the Famicom, but was rereleased much later by Limited Run games.
The original Famicom version is fairly rare in CIB and is one of the best zombie video games.

Doom by ID Software is one of the most important horror-themed games of all time.
Other than Wolfenstein 3-D, Doom is one of the best and revolutionary titles in gaming history as one of the first FPS games (first person shooter).
The game was first released on the PC, but has been ported for years onto other home platforms, most notably the SNES.

This 1993 Arcade game was insanely popular as a stand up arcade unit, as a "killer" 2-player light gun game.
Mowing down zombies from start to finish, this game is a gratuitous gorefest.
When the Saturn came out with a light gun feature, this was the game that players wanted to play at home.
