One of the greatest video games of all time, Super Mario Bros. is arguably the most important and influential video game ever created. It’s no surprise that this one tops the 100 most valuable Nintendo NES games list.
Finding factory sealed examples of this coveted title is no small feat though, and buying can get confusing with so many variations.

The greatest Role Playing Adventure Game of all time, the Legend of Zelda speaks for itself in terms of pop culture relevance and importance in the video game industry.
Finding this game factory sealed is extremely difficult much like any NES game from this era.
The game was so popular with consumers throughout the long life span of the NES so there are multiple versions of the game to seek out.
The true 1st printing of the game is called the TM version and only 1 is known to exist factory sealed.
The majority of sealed collectors would be more than happy to own the last printing, the oval seal variation, and due to extreme rarity of earlier variations, the oval seal version currently holds the record price.
Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out (Nintendo, 1987)

Arguably the most popular and influential sports based video game of all time, this classic NES game is important for more than one reason. Not only is Tyson the greatest boxing game of all time, the game was released during the heyday of Mike’s career and is the first celebrity licensed video game.
Tyson eventually removed from the game so there are multiple variations of the box. The white bullets version of the No Rev-A is the 1st printing, but there are currently no confirmed copies sealed (1 rumored to exist raw).
There are only 2 or 3 No Rev-A sealed examples confirmed to exist and are among the most sought after items in the hobby of game collecting.

There are only a handful of 1st print Hangtab copies sealed and only a single confirmed No Rev-A sealed example making these among the most sought after items in the hobby of game collecting.

One of the greatest platformers of all time, Super Mario Bros. 3 is considered by many fans to be the very best game ever created featuring Mario! It’s no surprise that factory sealed 1st print examples are extremely coveted in the market.
Nintendo decided that the “Bros.” in Super Mario Bros. did not have the greatest placement for the box art and quickly moved the positioning from the left side to the right side of the box. This creates the coveted, 1st print “Left Bros” variation.
Finding this game factory sealed is practically unheard of with only a handful known to exist. If you have a regular edition, don’t be discouraged as this version is also highly valuable and coveted.

One of the deepest adventure platformer games for the NES, Metroid is so great that it stands up to today’s standards.
The ending of Metroid adds to the appeal with Samus removing her helmet at the end of the game to reveal that the hero of the game is in fact a girl! Amazing stuff in 1987.

Mario is certainly a repeating theme when it comes to high-end video game collecting. There’s no argument that the Italian plumber’s importance cannot be understated.
This game is a part of the black box arcade ports and finding factory sealed examples of this coveted title in any box version is near unheard of.

The sequel to the greatest of all time, Super Mario Bros. 2 is a fan favorite. Most of us in America didn’t even realize that it was reskinned version of the Famicom game Doki Doki Panic until we were adults!
It’s no surprise that this one tops the GOAT list. Finding factory sealed examples of this coveted title is no small feat though, especially the 1st print Circle Seal variation.

This legendary, tough platformer is probably the most popular Capcom game and a true classic for the NES.
Finding this game factory sealed is extremely difficult. Much like the SMB 3 left bros variation, there was a change made early in production.
The “Dr. Wright” variation is the most sought after and valuable printing of the game. Only a handful of these likely exist, but any sealed or high grade CIB example is sought after.

This game has a ton going for it from the “Key” standpoint, featuring the first appearance of juggernaut characters like Mario and Donkey Kong.
The game was first released in the arcades, so this is a port to the NES but this home console version was the first time many games experienced the classic for themselves.
Finding one of these games factory sealed is a true bear and the price tag proves it!

Probably the most notoriously rare game for the NES. Stadium Events has long been considered the “Holy Grail” of NES collecting.
This is certainly true when it comes to cart or even CIB collecting, that said there are many games that are just as rare and even more rare when it comes to Factory Sealed collecting.
Don’t get us wrong though, finding one of these sealed is just about as rare as hitting the lottery.
Nintendo World Championships (Nintendo, 1990)

This cart game was only given out to the top players in the video game world in 1990 and that is why this game is so insanely rare.
It is estimated that only 100 or so of these still exist. There are two version is ultra rare cart, gray and gold. The gray variation is more common (but arguably more important).
The gray carts were given out to contest winners and the gold carts were given out to Nintendo Power subscribers.
Ghosts ‘n Goblins (Capcom, 1986)

This classically tough game was the 1st mainstream Zombie game and the 1st for the famed Nintendo Entertainment System. This 1985 arcade game by Capcom was a true coin eater as kids had to become insanely good to progress through this game and is known for its brutal difficulty right out the gate in the first level.
Finding this game factory sealed is extremely difficult. There are several versions and this being a 1986 NES title the first version comes with a cardboard hangtab.
There are only a handful of this 1st print known to exist but any version of this game in a factory sealed condition is highly sought after.
Additionally, CIBS of this game have also become collectible over the years and finding a carboard hangtab example even in CIB can be a long term goal if looking for a mint example.

The rarest and most desirable of the Disney Capcom.
Not only is Duck Tales 2 the most difficult to find, but this late run 1993 game is one of the best platformers ever created for the NES system, pushing its hardware at the time.
The game is expensive and difficult to find in CIB with likely less then 10 factory sealed examples in existence.

This late run fighting game for the NES is desirable due to pretty extreme rarity.
Many of the late run games for the NES are tough because most gamers had already moved their focus over to the SNES or Sega Genesis. (Stay tuned for future articles on these systems).
This is one of the toughest to find sealed and couple that with the TMNT franchise and you have a real winner.

Legal issues make this game very difficult to find. Factory sealed can be quite a challenge.
